Working from home sounds like a dream, right? Pajamas all day, no commute, and snacks within arm’s reach. But let’s be honest—when your bed is five steps away, staying productive can be… tricky. After struggling with distractions (and back pain from working at the kitchen table), I decided to create a space that actually helps me focus and feels good to be in. Here’s what worked for me:
1)Start with a proper chair. This was a game-changer. For months, I sat on a dining chair until I realized my posture was suffering. A supportive, adjustable desk chair made a bigger difference than I expected—both for comfort and focus.
2)Pick a spot with good lighting. Natural light keeps me awake and in a better mood, so I set up my desk near a window. On cloudy days, I light a candle or switch on a warm desk lamp to keep things cozy.
3)Add personal touches. I used to think minimal was best, but a few photos, a plant, or your favorite mug can really make the space feel yours. It’s like telling your brain, “Hey, we like it here.”
4)Keep it clutter-free, but not sterile.
Too much mess is distracting, but if it’s too empty, it feels cold. I keep a little tray for pens, a small notebook, and sometimes even a snack bowl because, well, snacks help.
5. Set boundaries. If you live with others, a “do not disturb” sign or even headphones can signal you’re in work mode. It’s all about balance.
A cozy workspace doesn’t need to be fancy but it just needs to support the way you work best.
