Hello everyone, welcome to the Art and Culture Blog. Throughout this three first blogs I wanted to connect the art of my home region (Galicia) with the art of this country that I´m doing my Erasmus in (Turkey). Both with different backgrounds, we might think that they have nothing to do with each other, but nothing of the sort… We’ll begin this first blog with the famous Cathedral of my city Santiago de Compostela, Galicia.
Santiago Cathedral, the final destination of the ancient “Camiño de Santiago”, is much more than a monument. It is a symbol of pilgrimage, faith, and art. From its Romanesque facade to the imposing Pórtico da Gloria, every stone and every corner tells a story.
The moment you enter, the colourful light coming through the stained glass, the smell and the noise of the Botafumeiro tingling around, creates a magical atmosphere where you feel like you are part of the history of the space.
The Cathedral it’s a mixture of different architectural styles, that reflect the time passing though the building and the inspirations from different countries. We could see Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque, and other different hints of different time periods.
Beyond its beauty, the Santiago Cathedral is a meeting place, not just for the Christians, but for all the people that wants to be part of that community that experiments the emotions that you experience through the “camiño”. In a way, they create a family reminding us that, despite our differences we all share a common path.
